Young Arts Projects - November 2011

Despite delays due to the weather, the sculpture at St Joseph's School eventually had all its tiles cemented in place and grouting was started. Completion is due in early 2012.

The Lantern Parade by our local children heralded the start of Christmas Celebrations in Cranleigh and many of us enjoyed the spectacle for ourselves.

What fun the children had on the evening itself, but that was only half the story.

Young Arts recognizes the value of fostering artistic endeavour in young people aged 8 to 18. By sponsoring the Lantern Workshops at the Arts Centre during half term, CDFAS provided local children with an opportunity for artistic creativity. There, as our photographs testify, while making their lanterns from scratch and decorating them attractively, they experienced the pleasure of being involved in the "Applied Arts".

Just look at the concentration and joy on the children's faces while making the lanterns and holding the finished articles aloft. Proof enough that the CDFAS workshops fulfill their aim. And we had fun too!
