Work in Progress at St Joseph's School

St Joseph's School held an Open Day on Wednesday 15 December when we were able to see the sculpture which Cranleigh DFAS is helping to fund. It is placed in a commanding position in front of the house, with well established trees providing a framework.

Janet Stanley, Head of Art, has designed it with great sensitivity to her subject. Three figures are joined together in a fluid arrangement of arms highlighting the unity, care and understanding St Joseph's delivers to their learners.

The finished sculpture will be covered with coloured mosaic tiles when completed - the weather plays a dominant role as they must be applied when frost and snow do not threaten.

Work will continue in the spring when the children will be employed fixing the tiles to the figures. This promises to be a most significant piece of sculpture.
