MOSAIC CELEBRATING THE OPENING OF CRANLEIGH CHURCH OF ENGLAND PRIMARY SCHOOL

Friday 5 June finally marked the unveiling of the colourful mosaic which hangs in the reception area of Cranleigh Church of England Primary School and which celebrates the opening of the new school. Under the inspired guidance of Susannah Alfred, a professional artist, the children submitted designs which incorporated features of their school and of Cranleigh: the church, cranes, children, flowers and, of course, the rainbow which figures in the school's new logo. Currently the symmetrical halves are tantalisingly hung a few inches apart to be joined together once the school moves on to a single site in the future.

Well chosen coloured mosaic tiles and mirror fragments give the finished mosaic a youthful energetic feeling and the children in all age groups must be congratulated on their excellent work.

The project was co-ordinated by Mrs Stella Baker, a teacher at the school. It was generously sponsored by Cranleigh Decorative and Fine Arts Society, as part of their Young Arts initiative. Members of Cranleigh DFAS were there to cheer on proceedings

Pictured from left to right are Stella Baker (Co-ordinator), John Baker (Chairman of Cranleigh Decorative and Fine Arts Society), the children (Stanley, Alice, Samuel, Megan, Owen and Mae), Yvonne Farrington (Cranleigh DFAS Young Arts Co-ordinator) and Jane Byford (Headteacher).

The final effect - can you see the join?
