CHRISTMAS PARTY

9th December 2010

Following the success of last year, we had another great evening at the Parrot, Forest Green. The room was beautifully decorated and the glass of 'fizzy' enjoyed by all whilst we found seats for everyone.

When Henry V111th, aka John White, in full regalia, made his spectacular entrance, the room was hushed. We, indeed, felt like the 'peasants of Cranleigh' and honoured to be in his Royal presence.

Having given us details of his colourful life including his thoughts about all his wives, we were allowed to petition him with our requests and questions. Subdued at first, we all gained courage and there was much laughter when he was asked if he indeed had suffered with the French 'pox' and why hadn't he beheaded Holbein for fooling him with the portrait of Anne of Cleves. Finally, he was asked if he had heard any rumours of 'Wikileaks'. This was too much and lead to many cries of 'Treason'!!

A super meal followed, served by very attentive staff, the only problem arose at the end of the evening. There were so many coats on the rail that it collapsed and by the time we had sorted ourselves out we were all a bit late leaving. However, despite this it was a lovely event and again very many thanks to all of those who worked hard planning and organising such a successful evening. Now we need to think about next year…….
