Outing to The Watts Gallery

on the afternoon of Friday 2nd September 2011

For those who already knew the Watts Gallery in Compton from their visits prior to its renovation, this outing was a revelation. The once dingy, beige and poorly lit rooms now glow with maroon wallpaper, shining green decorative tiles and beautifully lit paintings and sculpture. The new presentation certainly shows off the work of the "greatest Victorian artist", even if some of his work is not to everybody's taste!

Our outing was authoratively and amusingly guided by a volunteer from Shalford DFAS which added greatly to our enjoyment. The afternoon was rounded off by a homemade cream tea and a chat - not to mention the opportunity for some retail therapy in the well stocked shop.

Our thanks to Jonathan Cross, Deputy Chairman, for organising this extra visit for us.
