Visit to the Royal Albert Hall 2 March 2009

This visit provided a rare opportunity to see more than the usual backstage tour of the Royal Albert Hall by viewing behind the scenes of a live production - in this case a performance in the round of Bizet's opera Carmen. In the company of first-class and well-informed guides we visited several levels of the auditorium including even the royal box and sitting room, having previously seen the results of the recent major subterranean improvements which have provided scenery bays, offices and dressing rooms as well as car parking for local residents.

As the photographic story of the day illustrates we were blessed with superb weather which showed the Albert Memorial and the park at their best.

Members were asked for their impressions of the day on the coach journey back to Cranleigh. As you will see from a selection that follows it was a very successful trip.

"Most enjoyable, highly informative and well presented. Another CDFAS triumph!"

"What a treat and all organised for us! Can't wait to go to a production there now."

"A bargain at the price. A super day out. What a fascinating tour of a remarkable building."

"I shall see all events held at the Albert Hall with such different eyes from now on. I feel so proud to be British and have access to such a wonderful historic building."

"An excellent guide who brought all the information to life."

Many thanks to Marilyn Fanya and Judy Bennett for organising this memorable day for us.
